Come join us for one of the oldest annual professional sporting events in South Florida, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association sanctioned Homestead Championship Rodeo and Rodeo Days, presented by the Homestead Rodeo Association.

Seven championship events will be featured; bare-back and saddle bronco riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, cowgirls’ barrel racing and the crowd favorite bull riding. The order of these performances is determined each day by the stock contractor Five Star Rodeo. In between events there will be entertainment by 2011 PRCA Clown of the Year and PRCA Comedy Act of the Year winner Keith Isley, and our own Homestead Everglades Posse Precision Mounted Drill team plus the crowning of the 2012 Homestead Rodeo Queen.

This year’s rodeo will be hosted by 2010 / 2005 PRCA Announcer of the Year with eight additional nominations in this category Wayne Brooks from Lampasas, Texas. Wayne was selected as one of the announcers at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2001 and 2006. The NFR in Las Vegas is the “Super Bowl of Rodeo”. Brooks, a commercial voice talent, has announced at National Rodeo Finals and numerous other famous and regional rodeos throughout the USA & Canada including the Calgary Stampede, Turquoise Circuit Finals, Mountain States Circuit Finals and Copenhagen Cup Finale in Las Vegas. Rest assured you are being entertained by the best rodeo announcer in the business.

The Homestead Rodeo is one of the first of the new circuit year. Top-ranking cowboys from all over the nation come to begin accumulating points toward PRCA national finals in December.

To celebrate the 63rd Anniversary this year, the Homestead Rodeo will again have several “Rodeo Days” events during the week prior to rodeo weekend:

Wednesday January 25th , Homestead Jackpot Rodeo will host ‘Family Night’ and the ‘Little Britches Cowboy & Cowgirl Contest” hosted by Homestead Main Street at the Harris Field Pavilion starting at 6PM. Lots of family fun events take place including a kids dance performance, a Country music DJ playing hot country tunes with line dancing, as well as the 2012 Homestead Rodeo Queen coronation!  There will be raffles and prizes along with a silent auction to benefit the Homestead Jackpot Rodeo, a local non-profit equestrian organization. There will be food and drinks served with plenty of open seating for guests to enjoy the fine food prepared by The Big Cheese of Homestead. Admission is FREE.

Thursday January 26th  in the rodeo arena the ever popular mechanical bull ‘Buck-off’ is back, starting at 5PM. This year PRCA Rodeo announcer Wayne Brooks will be our host announcer. Also that night the charity “Rodeo Bingo” will be back benefiting two local charities; Patches & This is the Dog. Spectator admission is FREE.

The opening night performance of the Rodeo begins at 8 p.m. on Friday night January 27th with “Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night”. The toughest cowboys, cowgirls, specialty acts, volunteers and attendees will be wearing pink to raise awareness for breast cancer research and encourage donations to Susan G. Komen For The Cure South Florida.

On Saturday morning the hometown tradition continues as the free Rodeo Parade steps off  in downtown Homestead at 11 a.m., featuring  the 2012 rodeo queen, floats, marching bands, horse units, clowns and a variety of vehicles. This year’s parade theme is “Rodeo Salutes Our Military”

The championship rodeo weekend continues with the Saturday and Sunday performances starting at 2 PM. Gates open at Noon.

Our Saturday performance kicks off with a military tribute featuring the Homestead Police Explorer’s Color Guard, a military flag presentation by the Homestead Everglades Posse and a live vocal performance by eleven members of the renowned Singing Miamians of Pinecrest. We’ll salute the men & women of our United States Armed Forces in support of the PRCA “Wrangler National Patriot” program. The goal is to raise funds benefiting the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary District 7 Division 6; a local military charity. We encourage all attendees and participants to wear red, white & blue.

Our Rodeo is a huge fund raising event for many local non for profit organizations each year. Surrounding the rodeo arena will be a variety of food and beverage booths provided by local nonprofit organizations and some for profit businesses. For the kids’ enjoyment there will be pony rides and an opportunity to have a photo taken on a real Brahma bull. For the more adventuresome there will be mechanical bull rides.

The Homestead Rodeo Association is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote the sport of rodeo and other equestrian activities to benefit the Greater Homestead/Florida City community and develop and support our youth through these activities.

The 63rd Annual Homestead Championship Rodeo is made possible through the efforts of the Homestead Rodeo Association, a group of volunteers who donate their time and talent.
